  • Each hospital shall file with the due dates specified in Administrative Bulletin 20-08 or regulation 957 CMR 9.07.

Overview

CHIA collects annual and quarterly financial reports from hospital health systems, acute hospitals, and their affiliated physician organizations. CHIA uses this information for financial monitoring and also publishes this information in annual and quarterly industry publications, as well as in individual online hospital fact sheets and databooks. All data is required in accordance with 957 CMR 9:00.

Effective August 31, 2020, Administrative Bulletin 20-08 revises the quarterly and annual standardized financial filing template to collect detailed information related to COVID-19 relief funding received by acute hospitals, physician organizations, and their parent organization.

Effective July 14, 2023, Administrative Bulletin 23-06 revises the quarterly and annual standardized financial filing requirements to collect information related to temporary staffing expenses. This will be collected in a separate template.

All financial data  will be submitted by health system using a pre-formatted Excel temple. Systems with three or more acute hospitals will receive a custom template directly from CHIA. Systems with two or fewer acute hospitals will download the standard template from the blue box to the right.

CHIA should be notified at data@chiamass.gov when changes to a hospital health system’s organizational structure would require modifications to the filing template.

Reports are required to be submitted through https://chiasubmissions.chia.state.ma.us, CHIA’s web-based transaction service.

Staff must be registered with CHIA to submit a financial statement filing. To register to submit a financial data, please complete the Hospital User Agreement. Completed forms should be submitted to DL-Data-Submitter-HelpDesk@chiamass.gov.
