Hospital Systems and Parent Organizations

Publication Materials

The Acute Hospital Parent Organizations and Systems report provides summary level information on hospital organizations and their related health care entities, and further categorizes the included Massachusetts hospitals as components of parent organizations. This report also features information on physician groups and health plans owned by hospital organizations, examines whether organizations are associated with one or more acute care hospitals, and differentiates Massachusetts hospitals solely owned within the Commonwealth from nationally owned and operated hospitals.

This report highlights the importance of differentiating the financial health and status of acute care hospitals from the parent organizations. The analysis in this report demonstrates the efforts health care systems are taking to evolve and expand, while integrating health care deliveries.

This publication includes multi-acute system profiles. Previously published as a part of Hospital Profiles, the multi-acute system profiles include measures that highlight financial performance, organizational structure, and relative size if component entities within each hospital system.
